Under the Sea

We finished up Under the Sea week with some more fun activities that included pretending to be pirates and hiding treasures, making ocean animals with pattern blocks, and measuring ourselves with jellyfish and gold fish.   We all really enjoyed learning about the ocean and we were sad to see the week end!   Here are a few more pictures from our Under the Sea fun!

Ocean Fun!

We had another fun day Under the Sea today!  We started the day by doing a scavenger hunt for ocean words in the hallway.  I told the kids that they needed to be really quiet because other classes were working and they did such a GREAT job!

For math today we taste tested some fish candy and then graphed our favorites!  Sharks won by a landslide!

When we were done, we had some extra time so we played ocean addition bump!  They partner up and take turns rolling two dice.  They add them together and cover the sum.  When all the numbers are covered the person with the most wins.

We watched a really cool video to learn about Hammerhead Sharks and then we learned how to draw one!

Here are a couple more fun pictures from today!

UNDER THE SEA WEEK!

This week we kicked off Under the Sea week!   Under The Sea week is a lot of fun and we will spend the week learning all about the ocean and completing ocean activities during centers!

The kids arrived today to the kindergarten hallway and our classroom transformed into the ocean!  We had an under the sea playlist jamming on spotify to really set the mood!

We jumped right into literacy centers this morning.  The kids got to fish for decodable words, read and make ocean words, sort real and nonsense words, read nonfiction ocean books, and read words to earn tosses at the under the sea beanbag board.  We had two sensory bins with rice and orbeez as well.

We learned how to draw jelly fish this morning too!  Here are a few of my favorites!

One of the kindergarten learning standards is that students participate in a shared research project.  Under the Sea week is the perfect time to complete that project so the kids got to vote on what ocean animal they would like us to research together.  The winner was the dolphin!  We will get started on our research tomorrow.  Today we talked about all the things we already know about dolphins.

During math we played a taller/shorter game.  Students put a ten stick of blocks behind their back and counted down "3 2 1 BREAK".  The compared their broken stick and determined which was taller and which was shorter.  They then spun a taller/shorter spinner to determine who won.  It was so much fun hearing the giggling and all the math talk happening during that game!

During our quiet time today we had an ocean projector projecting ocean animals on the walls and ceiling.  As you can probably imagine, it wasn't very quiet.  :)

Here are a couple more fun photos from our first day of Under the Sea Week!
