More Kindergarten Christmas Fun!

Yesterday was Candy Cane Day and the kids all looked so adorable!

We did some more candy cane science.  We did a test to see if candy canes sink or float.  First we made a prediction and then we tested it.  The kids who guessed that it sunk were very excited that their prediction was correct!

We also did an experiment to see what would make the candy cane dissolve the quickest.  We tested cold water, luke warm water and hot water.  The candy cane in the hot water dissolved the quickest!

Today has been a little more low key... We went to the high school to practice for our concert tonight!

When we got back the kids sure were tired!

We woke up just in time to have a coloring contest and go to lunch and recess!

They sure looked ADORABLE in their pajamas and they thought our pretend nap was pretty silly!  I am looking forward to tonight's concert and another fun day of kindergarten with them tomorrow!  Thank you for sharing your amazing kids with me every day!  They make me smile and laugh every single day!

Candy Cane Science!!

This morning after Mr. Roer did morning announcements he came in with a special package that arrived over night.  The package was really really cold.  We quickly suspected it might be from the North Pole.

Mr. Roer said it was made out to Elf Amber, which the students know is my name from when I lived at the North Pole.  They were so excited and demanded that the package be open immediately.  Of course, I was so excited to see what my pal Santa might have sent me to we dug in!  We first found a letter from Santa, and Rudolph somehow got a hold of it and ate the corner.  Silly Reindeer.

The kids were so excited to hear that Mrs. Claus fixed up my old elf uniform.  They BEGGED me to try it out right away.  With some encouragement from Mr. Roer, I decided that the kids deserved to see the sight!  I tried it on and they were SO excited.  I told them I would have to take it off for the rest of the day, because I want to save it for Friday!

Santa also sent us candy canes so we can do Candy Cane Science this week.  Today we started with taste testing... the best part of candy cane science!  We taste tested Sweet Tart, Peppermint and Wintergreen candy canes today!

Tomorrow we will do some more candy cane science, including experiments with disolving candy canes and sink/float tests.  We are SO excited!

Today was holiday sock day and the kids did not disappoint!  Tomorrow is Candy Cane Day, which is PERFECT for our second day of Candy Cane Science!

Candy Cane Science

Today we started our Candy Cane Science Unit!  The kids were so excited to be scientists today.  We started with one simple experiment where we predicted if a candy cane would sink or float.  We talked about what we needed to complete our experiment and we recorded the process together.

Many of the students were surprised to see that Candy Canes SINK!  As we recorded our observations and results, I left the candy cane in the water.  The kids were very intrigued that the candy cane disappeared!  We will do another experiment with dissolving candy canes next week.

The next experiment we did was to compare a soft, round peppermint to a traditional peppermint candy cane,  The kids were each given one to sample and then they had to decide which they preferred.  We talked about what was similar about the candy and what was different.  We then recorded what the class most preferred.  We even got opinions for Ms. Pam (Secretary) and Ms. Chelsea (School Nurse).  It was a close race, but soft peppermints were preferred over traditional candy canes by a small margin.

We can't wait to complete more candy cane experiments next week!!
