Remote Learning Day 2

Yesterday did not go off without a hitch, but I appreciate your patience more than you know!
Some people were having a lot of trouble with logging into Splash Learn/Splash Math.  I figured out a work around...so if your child is having a hard time with logging in, message me and I will walk you through how to do it the other way.

Please continue to reach out to me when you need help.  Today my daughter has a virtual Dr.'s appointment so I have limited availability from 10am to about 11am.

Today we have a little Elmo's world, and another story about colors!

Today is read to your pet or stuffed animal day!  Send me your pictures or you can send them directly to mroer@sb320.org.

Remote Learning Day 1!

Good morning!

Hey Kiddos!  It is our first official day of remote learning, even though some of you did a great job working on school from home over the past two weeks!  Mrs. Laue is proud of all of you.

For this week, you can click here for the weeks lesson plans.  I will also be updating this blog daily and lay out what I would like for each day.  Please remember to email or SeeSaw message Mrs. Laue each day with what you are doing, that way I can keep "attendance".  It is important that this happens daily.  If you are chosing to do the packet instead of the online work, please send pictures of the daily work with your message to me or date each page and return them to the office on Monday when you pick up your new packet.

Math:
Please choose to work on Espark math OR SplashLearn for today.  If you are not choosing to do online work, you may chose one math worksheet from the packet to work on.  I would also like for you to practice counting to 100!

Phonics:
Please work on Espark Literacy or choose a worksheet from the packet.

Reading:
You can read from your reading folder.  If you left your reading folder at school you may pick it up from the office between 8:00am and Noon any day this week.  Parents, you can also read to your child for their daily reading.  They can also read on KidsA-Z.  This site has books at their level and then gives them comprehension quizzes that report back to me skills to focus on.

Virtual Field Trip!!

Don't forget to check out the specialist weekly plans attached to the bottom of the lesson plans mailed to you.

Pete the Cat and Butterflies with Mrs. Laue!

Happy first day of Spring!  It is so rainy and icky outside I decided to read you a book about the beach, so we can pretend it is nice and sunny outside!  After our story, I will show you how to draw a beautiful butterfly!  Just like before, if you make a butterfly send it to me and I will be sure to add it to the student gallery at the bottom of this post!

Pigeon Wants a Puppy!

Hey kids!  I am missing you all so much!  I hope you are all practicing reading, writing, and math on your extra days off!  I can see when you log into the websites and I am really proud!  Some of you have been working so hard at home!  Also, make sure you are being a good helper for your grown ups.  Do your work without whining and make sure you are picking up your toys when you are done with them!  Today I recorded a video of me reading a book.  Of course Whitney wanted to join in again.  She is missing being in school right now too!

Guess who else is making videos.... MRS. STUCKY!!!

If you click on the videos and go to my Youtube page or Mrs. Stucky's youtube page you can subscribe to the channel to be updated right away when new content is loaded.  I will continue to post videos to the blog!  I miss you all so much!

Hammerhead Shark!

Last week I promised some of my boys that I would teach them how to draw a shark this week.  Well, here I am ready to show you how!  What makes this even more special, is my daughter Whitney wanted to help also!

This is the first video I have ever made like this!  Hopefully I get a little better at it before we try again, although Whitney said we are definitely making another one soon!  LOL  You guys may get a new video every day during social distancing!

Here is my finished project and a visual of the instruction on how to draw the shark!

If you make a shark yourself please send a picture to me and I will add it to the post!  I can't wait to see them!

BOREDOM BUSTERS!

Hey Families!  I was so bummed to hear the news that we were taking this week off as well as next week.  But, I am thankful that my kiddos are tucked away safe from all the icky germs that are floating around right now.  Please feel free to reach out to me with whatever you need over the next couple of weeks.  I will do my best to help you out.

I thought I would make blog post with some fun things for your little one to check out that doesn't require leaving the comfort of your own home!

VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS!

San Diego Zoo  The San Diego Zoo has a live feed of apes, baboons, condors, elephants, giraffes, koalas, owls, pandas, penguins, polar bears and tigers.  In addition to getting to see each of the animals, there are fun games and activities your child can play!

Monterey Bay Aquarium The Monterey Bay Aquarium has a handful of live animal cams.  The kids might really get a kick out of these since we are learning about the ocean right now!  If they really are enjoying the live feeds have them write about it in their journals that were sent home on Friday or send me a message on SeeSaw and let me know!

Cincinnati Zoo - The Cincinnati Zoo is doing a Facebook live everyday at 2:00 central time with a different animal.  Today they fed the hippos!  It was really exciting to watch!  Click here to see the hippo video.   In addition to their daily live videos, they have quite a few more cute videos of the animals with information about each animal.  I was surprised to learn today that hippos do not swim!

Scholastic- Scholastic has lots of different books and lessons for learning at home for all grade levels!

Mo Willems.... our favorite Elephant and Piggie author is doing Lunch Doodles with Mo every day!  Check that out by clicking here for the first day.  You will be able to find the other days by searching Lunch Doodles with Mo on YouTube!

Please feel free to do any, or all of these activities with your child!  My goal is to not overwhelm you with information and ideas, but give you resources to help your child continue to learn and grow over the next couple of weeks.   I would love to hear from your child through email or SeeSaw!  Let me see how they are keeping themselves occupied! I promise to message them back!

Don't forget to check out the website tab, which will take you the learning sites we use within our classroom as well!  Your child should have his/her log-in information in the packet that came home Friday, but please let me know if you need the information again.

Under the Sea Day!

This week and next week we will be learning about ocean animals.  I thought a great way to kick off our ocean unit was to spend a day going under the sea!  The kids came into luau music playing and the ambiance of being under the sea.  All day long we complete ocean related tasks!

This morning for seat work we colored ocean pictures while listening to the Little Mermaid soundtrack!

We quickly went into math centers where we practiced addition, subtraction, making ten, teen numbers and number order to 20.  The kids had so much fun and thank goodness for extra hands to help!

Addition Toss!
Students pulled an addition fact from the bucket, solved it and then tossed beanbags through the holes.

Making Ten!
Students spun and then figured out how many more they needed to make ten.

Fishing for Subtraction Facts!
This one seemed to be a class favorite!

They worked together to find teen numbers at the teen number station and to put cards in order from 1 to 20 with various ocean pictures.

After math centers each student got three different flavors of Swedish Fish.  Regular, Tropical and Tails.  We taste tested each flavor and then graphed our favorite!

This afternoon we worked in literacy centers that were, once again, ocean themed!  We fished for words with digraphs, sounded out words with blends, spelled sight words with clams and crabs, and worked on word families!

We finished off the day with a round of Ocean BINGO!

Overall, we had a BLAST!

March Madness and Dr. Seuss Fun!

As you are all aware this week is Read Across America Week.  At Clark School we are having a little bit of fun with it! Yesterday was my FAVORITE type of spirit day, PAJAMA DAY!

We read the book The Cat in the Hat yesterday.  I love this story because at the end it asks the kids what they would do if that happened to them.  It is a great way to discuss telling the truth versus lying.  I was proud that the majority of the kiddos said that they would tell their grown ups the truth.  We then made cat in the hat hats that had rhyming words on them.  We are still struggling a bit with rhyming words, so Read Across America Week came at the perfect time!

Today was Crazy Sock Day!  We read the Fox in Socks (that one is a real tongue twister) and then we designed our own socks and wrote descriptive writing about them.  Tomorrow students will have to guess which sock goes with which writing!

Today we had a BLAST exploring numbers with Math Stackers.  These are a great way for students to visualize numbers.

FINALLY.....   MARCH MADNESS
We are continuing to have some issues with respect and following directions in class, so for the month of March we will be having the kindergarten version of March Madness.  I installed a basketball hoop in the classroom.  Kids get to earn shooting hoops at the end of the day by making good choices.  The more times you are caught making good choices, the more shots you get to take.   If you are not making good choices, you might get an air ball, a foul or foul out.  At the end of the month the three students who have scored the most points will get to tell me their favorite candy bar and I will buy it for them.  The kids are very excited.  Kids who move their ball up for making good choices get in the basketball hall of fame and will bring home a special certificate!
